Latest Grazing Info
Things are getting interesting on the Sainsbury sheep grazing project, we are starting to get lamb weight gains from the first couple of farms and so far they are doing 300g/day+ purely on grass, when you consider that these sheep are grazing grass that is above 12ME these figures don’t surprise me.
Grass growth is now well above demand, with most farms growing well above 50Kgs/DM/Ha/Day with minimal fertiliser applied. Also most farms have either cut silage or are close to cutting silage off some of the paddocks.
One surprise so far is that the old leys when rotationally grazed are of very similar quality to the newer leys with the difference being the quantity grown. It is also proving that rotational grazing can work effectively across a wide variety of farms regardless of the individual differences.
